How To Water Houseplants In the Shower. A Step By Step Guide.

Ok so sometimes the thought of watering all your plants can be a bit overwhelming. Plant people like us can get busy! There's a hidden hack to make watering a breeze...it's the shower!

Why should I water my houseplants in the shower?

Not only does it make it easy to drain the water from your soil, but it allows you to wash off any dust, hidden pests or build up that has accumulated on the leaves. Just think of it as a tropical rainstorm; it can give your plants the pep up they need!

How to water your houseplants in the shower

Step 1: Lug your houseplants to the bathroom

It's a good idea to choose tropical plants like monsteras, pothos, and ferns. Succulents and cacti may not be the biggest fans of the shower.  Make sure that you lift heavy plants with 2 people! Group all the plants together under the shower head.

Step 2: Make sure the water is not hot

Houseplants really like lukewarm water. Think of the tropical rain that you're trying to emulate! Is the water too hot? It can scold leaves and stress the plant. Too cold? It could shock roots. Lukewarm water is just right.

Step 3: Make it a light shower, not a thunderstorm!

You want a gentle spray...think rainforest mist, gently falling on the leaves of your houseplants. If the pressure is too high, it can disturb the soil and potentially damage leaves, so keep it gentle.

Step 4: Give your plants a thorough rinse

30 seconds - 1 minute is generally enough to give your plants what they need. Try and give all the leaves a good shower, and make sure the water runs down into the pot. You might see some soil leak out onto the floor...that's ok, it means your plants are getting a deep drink!

Step 5: Let the water drain and dry

The key to preventing a soggy disaster? Drainage! Let your plants sit in the tub or shower for a good while. Lift them up and let excess water drain. You can even leave them in the tub to completely dry! Just avoid the hairdryer...
