3 Vegetables You Can Grow In Pots In Winter

The weather has turned chilly, but that doesn't mean that I'm not spending my Sundays in the garden center!  In fact, I'm turning my attention to growing some indoor veggies to bulk up winter warmers like soups and stews! Think veggie gardening is only for spring?  Think again! With a bit of sunlight (and a handy Instant Sun Grow Lamp), you can grow tasty, nutritious veggies right from your windowsill—even in the middle of winter. Here are 3 cold-loving veggies that thrive in pots indoors across Australia.

1. Radishes

I absolutely love these ruby beauties. Growing radishes on a balcony or windowsill is actually super easy. They're fast growing and low effort, so you can enjoy fresh home grown veggies without masses of stress.

Top Tip: Choose a wide, shallow pot with good drainage. When you're planting them, give the soil a big dose of Support Pellets to give them a kickstart. Keep the soil moist with Grow Concentrate and place it in a sunny windowsill or use an Instant Sun Grow Lamp

2. Chives

Ok, so not actually a vegetable, but super hearty and versatile nonetheless. I love Chives because they give a subtle onion-flavour, and just need a simple snip. They are compact, hardy, and practically take care of themselves.

Top Tip: When you're harvesting your chivy bounty, snip just above the base so that they’ll keep growing back.

3. Kale

Did you know that Kale actually loves the cold? It actually gets sweeter after a chill! Try picking up baby kale varieties from your local garden centre - they are perfect for pots. My fave are the more succulent tuscan varieties.

Top Tip: You're best to use a deeper pot with nutrient-rich soil - plenty of Support Pellets and Grow Concentrate. Snip off the outer leaves first to keep the plant growing strong all winter long.
