What is Scale and How Do you Treat It?

Have you ever seen these little scale like shapes on your houseplants? They’re bugs!

How do I know if my plants have scale?

First things first, let's talk about how to spot these little buggers. They're tiny shell like creatures that range in colour from green, to white, to brownish. They love to hide on the underside of your houseplant leaves and cluster around stems. Don’t worry, they're also pretty lazy and won't move around much. Take a good look at your plants and you might just notice Scale!

How do I get rid of Scale?

Now, let's talk about how to get rid of them. The first thing you should do is put the affected plants in ISO! It will stop the bugs spreading to your other green babes. These bugs are like that sore back that just won’t quit, so be careful!

Next, wipe off any of the bugs that you can see with our Leaf Cleaning Gloves. It will decimate the population and make it easier for the next part!

You should use an organic plant spray. Many customers use Neem Spray for organic gardening, although this cannot be advertised or marketed as a pest spray in Australia. Make sure you use your Leaf Cleaning Gloves to get the spray into every crack and crevice; coverage is key!

How do I prevent Scale on my houseplants?

The key to pest prevention is to keep your plants well fed and healthy. A regular dose of Support Pellets, and adding Grow Concentrate everytime you water your plants will help. Keep the sunlight up, and avoid overwatering!

And there you have it, folks! With these simple steps, you can say goodbye to those little barnacles once and for all. Now, go forth and enjoy your bug-free houseplants!

P.S. If all else fails, just blame it on the cat and call it a day.
