monstera in low light conditions

4 Reasons Why Your Monstera Is Not Growing, And How To Fix Them

With the spring growing season here, you should be seeing fresh new growth and even flowers on some of your houseplants! If you're wondering "why is my monstera not growing?", we've got some common reasons! Monstera houseplants can be easy to care for when you give them the right conditions, but these 4 reasons are the most common culprits behind slow growing monsteras at home.

Reason 1: Your Monstera Isn't Getting Enough Light

Think of your monstera like a jungle creature. It loves to have bright indirect light that filters down from the canopy above. Light is one of the most common reasons why your monstera isn't growing inside. If you're seeing small leaves, and they don't have fenestrations, or splits, in them, it's a pretty good sign that your monstera needs more consistent light. Spring is the perfect time to reposition your monstera!

How to fix low light for your monstera:

Move your monstera houseplant to a spot that is near a window with sheer curtains, or is in a well lit room with direct sunlight. Especially as we move into the Australian summer, it's important not to put it right in direct sunlight.

Reason 2: You're underwatering your monstera

Like we mentioned above, keep in mind that monsteras are tropical plants. It means that they are partial to a good drink (who isn't?!). As the weather warms up, it is important to consistently water your monstera - evry 5-7 days is usually best practice in warmer months.

How to fix underwatering for your monstera:

Use your finger to check the first few cms of your soil. If its dry, it's a good sign that it's time to water your plant. Add a squirt of Grow Concentrate to make sure your monstera stays healthy all year round. When you're watering your monstera, always make sure the water drains from the bottom of the pot - a good soaking is what is needs!

Reason 3: Your Monstera Is Pot Bound and Needs Repotting!

When your monsteras is happy, it will grow quickly, and the roots will soon fill that pot. As it start to outgrow its pot, the growth will slow down. So if your monstera was once healthy and fast growing, but suddenly seems to have stalled, take a look at the pot!

How to repot your monstera:

Choose a pot that is the next size up from your monstera's current home. Gently ease the plant out of its old pot, and use fresh, good quality soil. Mix Support Pellets through, and pack your monstera into its new home. Water thoroughly with Grow Concentrate for houseplants

Reason 4: Your Monstera Is Hungry And Needs Fertiliser

These can be hungry hungry hippos, particularly in spring and summer. If you've been a little lazy with your feeding schedule, it could mean that your monstera just needs more fertiliser. Beware - using synthetic, chemical fertilisers can actually do more harm than good. They can burn and overdose your plant. Opt for a bioactive fertiliser instead.

How to fertilise your monstera:

Simply add a squirt of We the Wild's organic and bioactive Grow Concentrate to your monstera's water, everytime you water. It can't burn or overdose your monstera. Not only will it deliver vital nutrients, but give your monstera all the beneficial microbes that it craves in nature, but misses out on at home. You'll see new shoots and new leaves in no time!

So, if you want your monstera to start growing like it's on turbocharge, follow some of these tips this spring. Happy growing!
